Homemade Applesauce

November 1, 2014 By Kristie

I love making applesauce this time of year. It is very easy & doesn’t require any special equipment.  Now.. how to choose which apple?? What do you like? Tart apples use Ginger Gold or a Granny Smith.. I don’t like to add much sugar so I like gala. It is also fun to do a variety of some apples.. like Jonagolds with Cortlands & maybe some Galas as well.. Whatever you pick I sure will be fine. I just wouldn’t do a red delicious they are best just for eating.. Applesauce is basically apples peeled, seeded & cored & then diced with some sugar & a little water with a dash of cinnamon. I peeled, cored & diced about 15 ginger golds & gala apples & put them in a pot with about 3 c of water & 1 cup of sugar. Then I covered the apples & cooked them on med/low until they were soft. Then I just added a dash of cinnamon & mashed the apples with a hand masher. You can pour off the liquid if you want a thick applesauce.. If you want it very smooth you can use a blender too 🙂 001 This picture is a before & after.. You could also do this in a crockpot for about 3-4hours
